Moodle and Oasis Help
What is OASIS?
Oasis stands for: Online Administrative Student
Information System
This is the system that enables all of our student transactions and interactions. OASIS supports Admissions, Registration, Financial Aid, Billing, Course and Schedule Management and Maintenance, Advising, Improved reporting, Course Development and Delivery of Course Materials.
What is a Learning Management System?
A Learning Management System or LMS is used to deliver course materials to students in an online format. They typically include features such as calendars, messaging, grade books, web-based content delivery, testing, discussion forums, etc...

OASIS is our Academic Portal (our Administrative Portal is called IRIS - we'll save that for a different discussion!)
A portal is basically a centralized location that makes a lot of varied information readily available. So, OASIS is the central location of all of the information and college-wide processes you need to be able to access when interacting with students.
What LMS system do we use at Columbia?
Actually, you have a choice between two different LMS packages at Columbia. We support both the LMS that comes with the OASIS portal called the OASIS LMS and also Moodle, which is an open-source LMS.
Moodle stands for Modular Object Oriented
Dynamic Learning Environment.
