Professional's Guide

The Portfolio Center is Columbia College’s professional resource center.  Our mission is to help our students be aware of what is expected of them from the professional community and to prepare their materials accordingly.  With the ultimate goal of having our graduating talent being savvy, informed, and engaged with potential employers from day one.  Inversely, we hope to offer you, the professionals, an opportunity to locate fresh talent in an assortment of ways.

SESSIONS
INDUSTRY EXPERTS
FIELD TRIPS
Throughout the semester we bring professionals on campus to take part in Portfolio Center Sessions.  These classroom or forum presentations are typically focused in and around a preexisting curriculum and tend to unfold as a moderated discussion about industry standards, personal experiences, and sound advice about job preparedness. The Industry Expert program on campus was established to give our students more intimate access to professionals in their field of study. For practical, informed, and impartial feedback we maintain a roster of professionals who are available to meet on-campus or off; these one-on-one meetings are a great chance for our students to discuss their body of work in an environment outside of the classroom. We understand that it is frequently hard to make time to leave your office, but you still might like to engage with our student population.  To that end we have a rich Field Trip program that allows us to help students get off campus to see a real time, working environment coupled with a conversation about those same presentation skills we hope to impart.

This is a prime opportunity to see our talent just prior to graduation.Industry Night is our yearly, campus-wide, opening night reception just prior to graduation. In that long moment between completing their studies and starting a professional life in arts and media these “new professionals” need a little guidance. What better than to put them in room full of professionals like you for your insights, nudges, and thoughts on their plans to get and produce good work.To get an immediate look at the talent emerging from Columbia, go to our searchable database WebAgent: Search.
